PropH CtP Waste Treatment Systems
Computer-to-Plate (CtP) imaging systems are now commonplace throughout the printing industry and have proven to be a real productivity improvement along with reducing the printer’s impact on the environment by eliminating film processor chemical waste. However, the CtP plate processor still uses chemicals to process the plate for printing. The CtP processor still replenishes chemistry and generates waste effluent that requires attention.

Virtually all of the CtP plate developers will have a very high pH typically in the 10 to 13 plus range. This high pH along with the high buffer capacity will prevent the pH from lowering when diluted with the finisher and rinse water used in the remaining process steps. Therefore, the effluent waste stream leaving the processor will generally have a pH in excess of 12.5. Waste with a pH of 12.5 or above is considered a hazardous waste and most local sewer authorities will have limits in the range of 8.5 to 9.


The good news is Procam Controls, Inc. offers a full line of automated pH neutralization systems for all types of CtP processors that process the different plates including thermal, photopolymer and silver-halide. Our systems are installed on all types of CtP systems including Agfa, Kodak Polychrome Graphics, Fuji, Konica-Minolta, Mitsubishi Imaging, Southern LithoPlate, Lastra, Anocoil and others. Procam has been producing neutralization systems for CtP since its introduction and we have well over 1200 installations.

Procam Controls also offers CtP-Kleen filtering systems for maximizing chemistry life and minimizing processor maintenance. Developers and Rinse water can be recirculated and filtered improving plate quality and reducing the labor required to rewash plates, clean processor tanks and rollers and lower chemistry costs.

In many areas of the country water quality is not ideal for processing CtP plates. Many manufacturers will recommend soft water for plate rinsing which eliminates calcium deposits on the plate. In addition, hard water contributes to drain plugging when using CtP thermal or photopolymer plate chemistry when it combines with the silicates it forms a very hard calcium silicate scale. The ProSoftCTP eliminates water hardness from the processor water supply line preventing spotting on the plates and reducing drain plugging.

The MCT-30 Metering/Collection Tank enables two or possibly three CtP processors to use one PropH by increasing the tank capacity and metering the flows to the PropH.

With the ProStik pH and Conductivity meters the operator can check to see if the CtP developer is within specification. These meters are inexpensive and invaluable for troubleshooting chemistry throughout your plant. They are also ideal for pressroom applications.
